Moving On, no ON-LINE

I've been listening to several podcasts recently. One of the themes that always floats to the top deals w/ having constant connectivity. The other thing that seems ubiquitous is the fact we're never where the tools we need are located.

This has given rise to the list of current project threads listed below:

  • I've started a blog, just because I wanted to, dealing w/ the "webified life".
  • Multi-factor Authentication -- Listen, Read, Invest. It'll keep you SAFE.
  • "Network File Access" -- like the S3 listed below, or Carbonite
Now, the list is longer, but delineation has a tendancy to obfuscate focus...more later.

Knowing whether your system is "secure" and "up to date" can be confusing. A posting on PCWorld's stafffblog tells about an online service from Secunia that you can use.

Here is a link directly to the software inspector page.

Ran across a service offered by Amazon while reading the other day. Amazon S3, Amazon Simple Storage Services. Storing "off-site" has never been easier.

The website, JungleDisk.com tells all about it. The Jungledisk software runs on Windows, MacOS X, and Linux. I'd recommend getting the latest build directly from the site.

You will need an Amazon account setup and the pick up the authorization keys needed when running JungleDisk for the first time.

ssh -D portnum host, socks proxy host:port

Change, the Same

The more things change, the more they really are the same. Those things that we sometimes insist are NEW, really have earlier beginnings.

For example, consider tech support.
